Reading is Magic (Children's Anthology Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 8 ratings

READING IS MAGIC is a showcase for a range of authors of children’s stories.

Lose yourself in a world were colour starts to vanish, a little girl’s imagination runs wild, a cloth that considers itself ugly finds beauty, a cloud discovers magic, children thwart the witch, a teacher chats with school children, a mango seller finds and loses her fortune, humanity remembers the importance of birdsong, a mysterious neighbour disappears, and a knight arrives from the past…

All in all, a wonderful collection to read at your leisure whilst enjoying school holidays, waiting for a friend or unwinding after a busy day.

Dip into our world of short stories…

From the Author

As a child, I was a bookworm. I travelled with the good doctor to find a cure for 'The King of the Copper Mountain,' solved mysteries with 'The Secret Seven,' and climbed 'The Magic Faraway Tree' more times than I can remember. Stories fired up my imagination and allowed me to escape into exciting, far-from-ordinary worlds.

But for many children, escape from the ordinary world - where they might be experiencing poverty, neglect or abuse - is not possible without help. The N.S.P.C.C. works to protect and improve the lives of vulnerable kids, so that's why it seemed appropriate to publish a collection of children's stories in aid of the charity.

The Short Stories Group hope that, having bought this book (thank you!) you will discover a story or two to share with your children or grandchildren at bedtime, something to read to your pupils at the end of the school day, and maybe (dare we hope) find one or two which recreate the childish delight you used to feel when you read your favourite story by the light of a torch under the bedclothes.

Why not turn the page and let the magic begin...

Every story in Reading is Magic catches your imagination and suitable for adults or/and children or to be read to children. It was hard to choose a favourite but I can't review them all. My five-year old granddaughter was enthralled when I read Upon The Crest Of The Moon by Jodie Klaire to her. My favourites were No One Rides Red Horses, by Jules Anne Ironside, and smiled at the wonderful descriptions of the kelpie. Also Mr. O' Rourke's Shed by Stephen Mark. I wished I could look out of the window and see coloured lights under my neighbour's shed, though I think I would be too spooked to visit. I didn't see the ending coming. A lovely collection of stories and value for money even more so when all of it is going to the children's charity NSPCC.

This is a delightful collection of stories intended for children, but very enjoyable for anyone who likes a good read. There are a real variety of styles and themes here and genuinely something for everyone, from the fantasy realism of The Mermaid by Vanessa Wester to the Sci-Fi whimsy of Mr O' Rourke's Shed by Stephen Mark and the fairy-tale adventure of The Magpie Witch by Baz Baron. All the stories are highly enjoyable but there are some standout examples - No One Rides Red Horses by Jules Anne Ironside is one of the best stories I've read in ages and could do well in major competitions. Thoroughly recommended

Nice collection of short stories for children. I loved Jody Klaire's little cloud, so sweet. Children of a good range of ages will love it.

'Reading is Magic' is a wonderful collection of short stories which, if nothing else, highlights the diversity of the human imagination. As a hobby writer, I shy away from writing short stories simply because I struggle to present a well-rounded idea in so few words. All of those involved in this book, however, seem to possess the ability to quickly draw the reader in to their respective worlds, making us feel quite at home from the very first line.

There is a story in here to suit everyone.

Worth EVERY penny.

Found this one by accident and what a wonderful collection of short stories showcasing some new authors.
I especially loved "The Importance of Birdsong" followed by "No One Rides Red Horses".
Download or order because this is one to keep and with proceeds going to charity, you can't go wrong.
